THE LIBRARY IS LACKING...

I was reading Christianity Today's list of the top 50 books that have shaped Evangelicals and it would seem that my library is lacking. However I do own 10 of the 50 books listed, which is more than I thought. But those ten that I do own have been quite influential in shaping me. Check the list out and see how many that you own. Be honest- doesn't everyone have a copy of David Wilkerson's The Cross and the Switchblade somewhere in a box in the attic?

Yeah, I thought this was an interesting article/list as well. I appreciate that they name is "most influential books" as opposed to "best evangelical books." I've only read 7 of these actually: The Next Christendom, Boundaries, The Cost of Discipleship, The Divine Conspiracy, What's So Amazing About Grace?, Celebration of Discipline, and Mere Christianity.

There are a good half dozen or so that I'd like to read. And plenty of others that aren't really as intriguing, but are well described as influential.

Five of them I'm certain I've read, two I may have read. I only have one in my active library. Some on that list I wouldn't even allow in my home!

I've read 8 of 'em... The Cost of Discipleship is an absolutely amazing book. I first read it while on a mission trip in Brazil... it did quite a number on me.

I only have four of them, and, of these, I hardly imagine A Wrinkle in Time as being particularly evangelical. I am in agreement with Mary Beth -- I would not even seriously consider reading the vast majority of them. Then again, I am not an evangelical.

I would include God's Politics By Jim Wallis as a redefinition of what it means to be evangelical.
