WHAT IS A CHRISTIAN? WHERE DO YOU FIT?

Wow, that was pretty cool. Three very different Christians all agreeing on basic essentials like faith in Jesus and putting our faith into action by loving our neighbor. The secular media doesn't usually do a good job of covering Christianity, but they did well here!

I would have thought that Anderson Cooper would be disappointed because the three of them didn't disagree more, but he didn't seem to be. To his credit, he did not try to provoke them into fighting with one another!

I'll admit I was a little shocked (and very relieved) to see an interview where it wasn't a Pat Robertson clone against a Jesse Jackson clone.

I was pleased to hear them talk about the emergence of the new youth and future leaders of the Church, but also that this shift is already going on. Networks like TBN make it seem as if organizations such as RELEVANT are all alone. It's great to know that it's more widespread.

Shalom,
Drew

fascinating discussion on the prosperity gospel. the dude from sojourners unfortunately hasn't seen the studies of how the pentecostal explosion in the two-thirds world and the prosperity gospel that too often accompanies some pentecostal teaching has made enormous inroads in that part of the world. the prosperity message has always and will always appeal to people who are lacking material well-being. i think it is instructive to see that all three panelists who roundly condemned the prosperity message were from middle class america.
